This marvelously mixed collection of Lewisiana shows the author in the role of both critic and writer. In the opening essays he extols the virtues of Story, an element often neglected by critics. In other essays he discusses the kinds of stories that were dear to him- children's books, fantasy, and science fiction. Also, in a rare moment, he writes about his own work- the Chronicles of Narnia and his trilogy.
The essays are followed by three science fiction stories, the only stories by Lewis ever published, and the first five chapters of a novel based on Greek legend, left incomplete at the time of his death.
